Are you on the hunt for a new air conditioning system? Perhaps you’ve heard of a unique geothermal heating and cooling option but don’t know how it works. We can help with that! Learn more about geothermal systems and your other AC options throughout the rest of our blog post.

What are my HVAC options?

There is a wide variety of heating and cooling systems for you to choose between. Some are more common than others, and we always recommend consulting with an expert before making your purchase to ensure that you’re getting the best model for your home.

Here are some of your options:

  • Heat pump
  • Ductless/Mini-Split
  • Central AC
  • Geothermal
  • Window unit

All of these options are great, but they each work better in unique situations, so make sure you’re choosing the best choice for your family!

How does a geothermal HVAC system work?

To put it simply, geothermal systems use the earth’s natural temperature to heat or cool your home.

During the winter, a heat pump sends fluid through long loops of underground pipes where the warmer soil underground increases the temperature of the fluid. The warm fluid is then pumped back into the building, where a heat exchanger transfers the heat from the fluid to the building’s heating system and warms the air.

Conversely, the fluid absorbs heat in the air in the summer and disperses it into the ground.

Cons: The initial investment and installation are expensive.

Pros: Most initial expenses are recouped through energy savings (you can cut utility bills between 30 and 70 percent!). Additionally, these systems are much better for the environment!
